New Township Logo

The Board of Supervisors believed that the successful municipal merger necessitated a new Township logo, to include both communities within UTT, and to better represent the unification of the municipalities. To that end, in May of 2018 the Berks Career and Technology Center was contacted to accomplish this mandate. This was a long process, and in November of 2018, a new design was chosen to be the official Township logo beginning January 1, 2019.
Level two and three students in the Advertising Art & Design Technology  program submitted 19 original concepts that were narrowed down to six by AADT’s Occupational Advisory Committee and then submitted to the township for consideration. The final designs were voted on by the Board of Supervisors and Township staff as well as numerous residents. The decision was not an easy one, with all submissions being thoughtfully and professionally created. Bristol Long’s design was ultimately chosen based on the details included in the logo as well as her narrative. Tulpehocken is the Native American word for turtle, and the turtle in this design is the Lenni- Lenape tribal turtle. The interior design represents the earth, which also pays homage to our farming community. The color choices work well for Township trucks and equipment as well as paper and electronic correspondence.

Bristol Long was a third-year student in the Advertising Art & Design Technology program at BCTC. Her logo concept was selected as the winning design for new identity pieces including a logo, business card, letterhead and envelopes for the Township. Long was awarded $200 for her efforts and the new designs went into use immediately. Residents of the township may now see the logo on municipal vehicles as well as official correspondence.

“Opportunities like this one provide invaluable experience for young designers to learn about working with a client. Obviously understanding design in imperative to a student’s success, but soft skills like flexibility, communication, and accepting critique are also vital to their growth. We’re thrilled to partner with organizations to offer quality work in exchange for experience.” - Beth Ireland, AADT Instructor.
